Physical Therapy is actively involved in wound care at Meadow Springs Center. Physical therapists are part of the Wound Team that completes wound rounds weekly on all the patients with wounds in the facility. Modalities that are available by a physical therapist after a wound evaluation by the wound team are MIST Therapy and High Volt Electrical Stimulation. MIST therapy is a noncontact, low-intensity, low-frequency, therapeutic ultrasound device cleared by the FDA to promote wound healing through cleansing and maintenance debridement. Currently, all of our full time physical therapists are certified to perform this new innovative treatment. High Voltage electrical stimulation has been widely researched as a treatment for wounds. Electrical stimulation is a modality that promotes healing by transferring electrical energy to a wound to increase circulation and provide a bacteriosidal effect to promote healing. The physical therapists are also involved in evaluating new wound care dressings and products along with the nursing and wound care teams.
